Proofreading involves checking documents for typographical errors, spelling, capitalization, grammar, and consistency.

Basic Copyediting goes a step further. In addition to proofreading, text is checked for clarity, style and tone, redundancy, and any missing information.

Substantive Editing makes significant changes where needed. This may include some rewriting and rearranging of sentences to improve clarity and readability.
